At our shop we perform prebuy inspections regularly. You always have to be cautious when buying a pre owned vehicle and should have a good idea of the mechanical state it is in before you commit to purchasing it. When we perform a prebuy inspection we use a S.P.O.T. report that is a 2 page check list of the components we check in the vehicle and the customer receives a copy of this form. Below are the components we inspect.
- Seat belts
- Emergency brake system
- Door locks and hinges
- Window operation
- Air conditioner operation
- Heater/ defroster/ fan operation
- Horn system
- Mirrors
- Antenna
- Gauges
- Wipers/ wiper blades
- Alternator, power steering, A/C, and serpintine belts
- Timing belt
- Upper/ lower radiator hoses
- Heater and other hoses
- Engine and cabin air filters
- All fluids
- Hood and trunk shocks/ supports
- Battery cables/ terminals
- All lights and lenses
- Ball joints
- Tie rod ends
- Idler arms
- Pitman arm
- Drag link
- Sway bar bushings
- Control arm bushings
- Front/ rear shocks/ struts
- Brake pads
- Brake lines
- C/V boots and joints
- Rack and pinion system
- Engine and transmission mounts
- Wheel bearings
- U-joints/ center support bearing
- Exhaust pipes and hangers
- Muffler
- Water pump
